Reed Lookout & The Balconies: Two Views Better Than One
Two stops. One short drive from Halls Gap. Both worth it.
Reed Lookout and The Balconies sit together on the western edge of the Grampians β you park once and walk to both. The views are completely different from anything you’ll see on the eastern side of the ranges.
Reed Lookout
The lookout itself is a short walk from the car park β maybe five minutes. It opens onto a wide view across the Wartook Valley, with the ranges rolling away to the north and south. Early morning is best; the valley floor catches the light before the heat sets in.
The Balconies
From Reed Lookout, a 1.4km return trail leads to The Balconies β sandstone overhangs that jut out over the valley like a natural diving board. Standing on them with nothing but air beneath you and the Grampians stretching out in every direction is one of those moments that’s hard to describe afterwards.
The track is well-marked and mostly flat after the initial descent from the lookout. The payoff at the end is significant.
Getting There
Head north from Halls Gap on the Grampians Road, then west on Roses Gap Road toward Wartook. About 35 minutes from the Nook. Go early β the car park is small and fills by mid-morning on weekends.
