At the Nook, we have always believed that true luxury is found in harmony, a balance between the comfort of a handcrafted home and the raw, untouched beauty of the Gariwerd (Grampians) landscape.
When we first began this journey, we set out to create a sustainable accommodation experience that was restorative not just for our guests, but for the land it sits upon. Today, I am incredibly proud to share the next evolution of our mission to lead in eco-friendly tourism within regional Victoria.

We have recently completed a major upgrade to our energy system with the installation of two Tesla Powerwall 3 batteries. This addition provides us with 27kW of electricity storage, allowing the Nook to capture the abundant Grampians sunshine and hold it for use long after the sun has dipped behind the sandstone peaks.
It was a joy to welcome back the team from TCK Solar to handle the installation. They were the experts who installed our solar panels a few years ago and having them return to complete this next phase felt like another piece of our sustainable legacy falling into place.

While technology like this certainly provides more resilience, this upgrade was never just about saving money or energy security. For us, it is a deeply personal commitment to being the most eco-conscious business and sustainable accommodation provider we can be.
By storing our own power, we are further reducing the carbon footprint of every stay on this sensitive environment. It allows the Nook to operate with a “silent heartbeat,” minimising our reliance on external infrastructure and ensuring that every soak in the outdoor bath or morning spent charging an electric vehicle is powered by the very landscape our guests come here to enjoy. This is the essence of low-impact tourism: experiencing the wild without leaving a trace.
This installation also paves the way for our next exciting step: the addition of a dedicated EV charger.
As more of our guests embrace eco-conscious travel and visit the Grampians in electric vehicles, we want to ensure their journey is as seamless as their stay. Having 27kW of storage makes an EV charger not only financially viable but incredibly efficient. It means our guests will soon be able to “fill their tanks” with pure, stored sunlight, making the Nook a premier destination for the modern, sustainable traveller.
The Nook continues to push the boundaries of what a restorative eco-escape can be, but we don’t do it in a vacuum. This evolution is driven by you, our incredible guests.
We are constantly inspired by the values you bring with you when you stay: a belief in slow living, a respect for the wild, and a desire to harmonize with nature rather than conquer it. You are the reason we keep striving to be better custodians of this land and leaders in sustainable tourism in Gariwerd.
The Nook is a living, breathing project. It began with an idea and a dream, and it continues to grow through the shared belief that we can experience the best of the world while leaving it better than we found it.
