There’s a version of a holiday that involves a lot of space and a lot of options, and another version that strips things right back. The Nook is the second kind. One well-designed room, a view worth waking up for, and not much between you and the landscape.

How the Space Works

Everything at the Nook is deliberate. The kitchen has what you need to cook properly. The bed faces the window so the morning light does something useful. The fire is the focal point of the room on cold nights, and the deck is the focal point of warm ones. Nothing is there for the sake of it.

The giant windows are the detail guests mention most. The Grampians landscape moves through them all day — light shifting on the ridge, weather coming in from the west, the occasional kangaroo working across the lower slope. You don’t need to go anywhere to feel like you’re in it.

The Materials

The Nook was built with reclaimed and recycled materials wherever possible. The timber, the fittings, the finishes — each piece has a previous life. It’s a detail that matters to us and, we’ve found, to most people who stay here.

The kitchen is small and well-equipped. The outdoor bath is there for the end of a long day, or the beginning of one. And the surrounding half-acre of native garden connects the property to the wider landscape it sits within.
