Venus Baths: Natural Rock Pools in the Heart of Gariwerd
Venus Baths is one of those places that earns its name. A series of natural rock pools cut into the sandstone, tucked into a creek valley just outside Halls Gap.
It’s a short walk β around 1.5 kilometres from the car park. The trail is mostly flat and shaded, which makes it a good choice on a warm day before the heat of the afternoon sets in.
The Pools
The pools are fed by the creek and carved over centuries into the pale rock. Some are shallow enough to wade in, others deep enough to swim. After good rainfall they fill and connect; in dry spells the water drops but the rock formations are beautiful on their own.
The light in the valley is best in the morning β it comes through the tree canopy and hits the water at an angle that makes everything glow. Worth timing your visit if you can.
Good to Know
There’s no entry fee and no booking required. The car park is on Grampians Road, clearly signed. Wear shoes you don’t mind getting wet β the rock around the pools can be slippery.
A good spot to combine with Silverband Falls or Boroka Lookout if you’re spending the day on the southern side of Halls Gap.
