At Nook On The Hill, we are blessed with some of the darkest skies in Victoria. Far from the glare of streetlights, our little patch of the world becomes a front-row seat to the cosmos.

Your Private Observatory: The Garden & Outdoor Bath

We designed The Nook to blur the lines between indoors and out, and summer is when this design truly shines.

  • The Outdoor Bath: There is arguably no better way to stargaze than submerged in warm water with a glass of local Shiraz in hand. Our outdoor bath is positioned to offer privacy while opening up the sky above you. Turn off the external lights, let your eyes adjust and watch the Milky Way stretch across the horizon.
  • The Garden Lounge: For those who prefer dry land, our outdoor area features comfortable fold-out sun chairs, perfect for settling in with a blanket. With the silhouette of the mountains as your backdrop, it’s a grounding place to simply lie back and look up.

A Future “Dark Sky” Destination

We are passionate about preserving this natural wonder. We are currently in the process of pursuing official Dark Sky certification, ensuring that our lighting and practices protect the pristine night environment of the Grampians for generations to come.

What to Look For This Summer

Summer in the Southern Hemisphere offers spectacular viewing. Keep an eye out for:

  • The Southern Cross (Crux): Iconic and bright, sitting high in the southern sky.
  • Orion’s Belt: Look for the three bright stars in a row—a familiar friend in the summer sky.
  • The Milky Way Core: On moonless nights, the density of stars here is breathtaking.

A Tip for Guests: To get the best view, we recommend turning off all internal lights at The Nook for 15 minutes to let your eyes fully adjust to the darkness. You’ll be amazed at how many more stars appear.
