Boronia Peak: The Most Rewarding Hike in the Grampians
Boronia Peak is not the most visited hike in Gariwerd. It’s the most rewarding.
At 1,050 metres, the views from the summit take in almost the entire Grampians range β north to the Serra Range, south over Lake Bellfield, west across the Wartook Valley. On a clear day you can pick out landmarks you’ve visited all week.
The Walk
The trail is 9 kilometres return from the car park off Boroka Drive. It climbs steadily through heath and stringybark forest before opening onto the ridge. Allow three to four hours at an easy pace, more if you stop often (you will).
The final section to the summit is rocky and exposed. Take your time. The cairn at the top feels well-earned.
About the Name
The peak is named for the native boronia that flowers across its slopes in spring β small pink blooms covering the heath in September and October. If you can time a visit for wildflower season, it’s worth it. The scent alone is something.
Good to Know
Start early, especially in summer. Carry more water than you think you need. The ridge is exposed and the wind can be sharp even on warm days.
This one stays with you. The kind of hike guests mention months later when they email to say they’re coming back.
